National Academy of Engineering

Grand Challenges Scholar

The Grand Challenges Scholars Program (GCSP) seeks to educate students about the 14 Grand Challenges as defined by the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). The program places an emphasis on exploring interdisciplinary curricula, participating in a study abroad or service learning opportunity, and engaging with the entrepreneurial community. Through completion of program requirements, students are encouraged to research and work to solve an issue facing future global development. In my foundation seminar class, I explored the potential of solar power and assessed the feasibility of widespread implementation. The GCSP program allows me to explore the intersection of design and applied engineering while developing my understanding of global issues.

January 2018 – Present

Through the National Academy of Engineering, I had the opportunity to travel to the Global Grand Challenges Summit in London, UK. You can read more about my travels on my blog posted September 29, 2019.
